Due to increase in customer demand and business growth, CommScope is hiring Manufacturing Operators in Catawba, NC!

How you'll help us connect the world:

As a Machine Operator, this role is focused on the setup, operation, shut down and change over procedures for equipment. Here, you will be encouraged to take initiative and use problem solving skills to troubleshoot. You will be responsible for filling out reports to provide needed product information to all departments. You will also work closely with Research & Development Engineering team on developing new products and evaluating new raw materials.

You will perform physical manipulation or movement of product or materials, machine operations, forklift operation or other jobs as needed. Processes include assisting in setting up extruder to include setting heat controls, selecting accurate extrusion tools, cooling devices and using the compound and wire supply specified. The operator rolls and position reels of wire, which requires pushing and pivoting the reels into place within a pay off machine. The operator may be required to load 3-12 reels per job, depending upon the particular type of cable being run.

Once the pay off machines are loaded the operator manually threads the wire through various eyelets and pulleys to the strander where it is combined with other wire to be made into cable. This requires fine motor and eye hand manipulation skills and reaching vertically. During the take up portion of the job, the operator stands and removes a reel, after it is full of cable, and pushes it into position so that a material handler can transport it to its final destination to ensure reel is accurately identified and stored.. Operators also performs quality control checks on wire supply and finished wire to include adhesion, air leaks, correct size, eccentricity, and wall thickness.

Schedule is 12-hour shifts from 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM on a 4 days on followed by 4 day off schedule including weekends.

Required Qualifications for Consideration:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Read, understand, and follow job instructions in English

  • 2+ years of Machine Operator experience
  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Understands quality metrics and tools to perform quality checks

Anticipated salary range dependent on experience and qualifications starts at $19.65 per hour. Overtime paid after 8 hours in a 12-hour shift.
